Friends & Strangers
My work involves the process of juxtaposing elements from my own photographs with those of amateur snapshots found in my family's and friends' photo albums. When I begin a new piece, my mind is filled with thoughts, with mental checklists, and, of course, the question of “what am I doing?" As the work progresses, something strange happens. Thoughts soften, and I begin listening, letting the photos speak. Often, just before I delete the entire project, it comes together for me.
